Sending and receiving faxes

Why can I not send more than 10MB?

Updated 03/11/2023

Fax is a delicate process and needs to take several factors into account. One such factor is the size of the document that is being sent.

Sending large files can be problematic, here are a few reasons why:

1. To send a fax requires a connection between two devices and can still be easily broken, large faxes require a much longer transmission time for the data to be sent from one end to another, opening up the risk to failed transmissions,

2. Having documents with large or high-resolution images also takes time as we need to convert the overall fax into a PCL image for traditional fax machines to be able to receive and print.

3. Website performance can be affected by uploading large files or images, so reducing the amount that can be upload improves response times.

This is why we introduced the limitation of 10MB, this helps ensure the safe sending of your documents, with as little interruption as possible (When sending to traditional fax machines, there are always potential risks of interruption).

You can still send multiple documents via email or the web platform with eComFax, providing the document's total size does not exceed 10MB.

What can you do?

If your document(s) exceeds this size here are some ideas to help:

1. Try to send in smaller quantities, this helps ensure a smoother and faster transmission.

2. If it is not possible to separate, i.e. one document, try to either reduce the image quality or in fact remove any unnecessary images at all from the file.

3. Try to change the file type of the document, for example, rich text documents are heavier than standard word documents.

3. If your email server allows the sending of files over 10MB, then you can use the email service. However, keep in mind a transmission still needs to be maintained while sending, (Most email service providers, do limit the amount of data that can be sent via email).
